Sponsorship of Maree Oranmore FC by Galway Physio

After some early years with Galway Rovers and Cregmore I first joined Oranmore FC in 1999 when I started at Calasanctius and haven’t missed a season of football since! I’m delighted to have the opportunity to support the club  through sponsorship. I played with Oranmore all throughout secondary school under some great coaches and with brilliant lads and players until I did my Leaving Cert and moved away from Galway to study Physiotherapy and then on to Australia.

After returning from Australia I re-joined again as we went on a 7 game winning run in Division 1 to get promoted back to the Premier. In the Premier we spent some great years mixing it at the top with the very best in Galway and all of this was with a squad of almost all local lads and long time mates.

When the legs refused to answer the brains requests as quick anymore some of the older heads decided to start a new team under Hughie O Neill. After successive promotions we found ourselves in the newly labelled Championship and with the news that four teams were coming down from the Premier, the many large 4G pitches now in Galway and the legs simply gone I called it a day last year!

I hadn’t even left the WhatsApp group when the new manager Conor Mullin rang and asked would I stay involved as a coach. After a brilliant start of 5 wins things have dipped slightly but today we remain comfortable in mid table and in to the knockout of the Connacht Shield. Not bad for a ‘B’ team with successive promotions and facing almost all ‘A’ teams in our league.

After all these years with this club I am looking back delighted to have captained them in the Premier league personally and just as proud to support this club as a coach, with jerseys and 4G professional signage. Something I certainly didn’t see happening way back in 1999.

I’m looking forward to supporting the club in to the future both in a sporting capacity and financially and even more so if either or both of our boys decide to try kick a ball!
